This clash is always closely fought but with Blues turning up with a full squad of experienced players it was clear that the Hawks ladies would have their work cut out this time round.
Blues took full control of the draws from the start which proved to be a critical factor in how the game went. Their strong squad created some great set plays off the draw and despite some cracking goals from Caitlin, Lara and Nicole in the first half and a sterling effort by the Hawks defence and goalie at the other end of the pitch, Blues ended the first half with a 6-3 lead.
Hawks continued to fight hard throughout the second half and created some excellent attacking play but Blues were in no mood to take their foot off the pedal. They continued to attack hard, converting some quick goals in succession and piling on the pressure on the Hawks attack, denying them scoring opportunities.
The score doesn’t truly reflect how close this game was. Hawks played well as a team and had some impressive play at both ends of the pitch. Nat Balfe had a cracking game in goal saving numerous hard shots from Blues but unfortunately Hawks did not have enough possession to match Blues this time round. Final score 14-6.
