Putney win at Hawks

On a cold Sunday morning, Hawks had a tough game against the notoriously hard Putney, who came in full force with an array of international players from all over the globe. Despite their enthusiasm, Hawks conceded several goals in the first few minutes. After a short time out, they recollected, reorganised and this resulted in a goal from Carina, assisted by Emma G. At the end of the quarter, the score was 7-1 to Putney.

Hawks stepped it up after the quick break, with some solid unit defence and some possession play in the attack, holding Putney off for 5 and a half minutes ending in a goal from Lara from a cheeky bounce shot on a free position. In the second quarter the score was 1-1, but 8-2 overall.

In third quarter, Hawks tactically used Emma Barlow, who has recently been selected for the England Development squad, for some outstanding man-on-man marking of an Putney’s strongest attacker, Jenny Simpson. 12-3 was the final score at the end of this quarter, with a score of 4-1 in that quarter, with a goal from Lara.

The last quarter saw Hawks come back with a fighting mentality, and only lost the quarter 3-2. Caity patrick stormed back resulting an excellent drive and difficult angle shot. There were several smashing turn overs from our England u19 star, Clare Brown. Special mention must go to Annie ferris in goal who made several unreal saves from experienced Putney players, and Lara Owen; who made several blocks and draw controls. In the last few minutes, Hawks saw a great goal from Julie wise, with an assist from Caity patrick, with a cheeky slot into goal. Hatch end Hawks had a really passionate and exciting game, and put up a great fight against such a strong team. Final score 15-5.
